Mill Street History

Welcome to the Mill Street Building. It’s quite a history I have …

I was originally the Waldron Hotel, built in 1927. In the 1950s, my lower half was rented out to business tenants such as the Secretary of State where locals got their drivers licenses and a WOPN disk jockey, who played records in my corner window.

In the early 50’s I housed the District Court holding cells that are still intact today and are located below where you are sitting right now.

In 1958 I was honored to have Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. meet right upstairs with other civil rights activists.

To my dismay, a fire in the early 1970s destroyed the front half of the hotel, which faced Pike Street and is now the parking lot for those visiting me.

Now, here I stand as a home to many individuals living in the apartments above, an office for Morgan Heller Associates on the West side of the building, and right here as your local neighborhood bar and grille, with great people, splendid food, generous drinks, and hot bands. I have never been happier!

The Lafayette Grande Banquet Facility is located in the Downtown Pontiac Entertainment District in a historical landmark. Built in 1923 as the Masonic Temple Lodge No. 21 by European artisans and tradesman to resemble fine Royal Palaces from centuries ago. Traveling Chef Catering bought this neglected building from the City of Pontiac in 1997. The intricate craftsmanship of fine details has been restored to the original grandeur. Truly, making the Lafayette Grande Banquet Facility a unique experience and unlike any other venue! Certainly a hidden gem in Oakland County, Michigan!

The Lafayette Grande is registered with the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Michigan State Historical Preservation Offices. We believe the cooked from scratch old fashion way, is the best way! Even the salad dressings are made fresh! Our produce and meats are bought weekly from the Eastern Market in Detroit.
